Girafe
Pencil drawing on laid papier verdatre Monval paper.
Reference: drawing related to Tonneau-Ryckelynck & Plumart 203.
Unique preparatory drawing for a print by the same titled, part of the series "Croquis d'Animaux". The pose of the giraffe is changed completely in the print. It also is much more detailed. The "double" animal, with one body and two necks and heads, depicting two poses, remails. Amusingly, our preparatory drawing shows two tick figures petting the giraffe's head near the ground. These "humans" are clearly far too small compared to a real giraffe, unless they are two-year olds!
On the verso, a drawing of an ibex that was seemingly not used in any print.
Signed in pencil.
