Description
Mezzotint on laid paper.
Published by John Boydell, London. With letters, as published. Seemingly scarce. This mezzotint was created after a design by the painter Joseph Farington (British, 1747-1821), whereabouts unknown today. Farington's design was after a painting by Jan Wyck (Dutch, 1645-1702) which hung at the time at Houghton House (Bedfordshire). This painting is now owned by The Hermitage, St. Petersburg. This painting by Wyck is itself a detail painted after a larger composition titled "James Stuart, Duke of Richmond and Lennox", painted by Anthony Van Dyck (Flemish, 1599-1641). This painting hangs today in gallery 618 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
