National Holiday on the Boulevard de Clichy
La Fête nationale au Boulevard Clichy (original French title)
Etching, aquatint and drypoint on wove paper printed in two tones.
Reference: Bourcard & Goodfriend 127 vii/viii. Seventh state, after the aquatint was added (before cancellation in the eighth state).
The “Bon à tirer” impression, printed in black ink for the central composition, and in bistre for the symphonic margins. Unique as such. Impressions in two tones are scarce.
Annotated “Bon à tirer” and monogrammed in pencil.
Provenance: private collection, Brussels.
Acquired by the father of the previous owner at Paul Prouté, Paris, in the 1960’s.
