Rooster’s Head

Date
circa 1908-12
Description

Tête de Coq (original French title)

Color woodcut (woodblock print in Japanese manner, with water-based inks) on laid Japan paper, circa 1908-1912.
One of few impressions, as is usual with most of Isaac’s work.  He almost never printed editions.
An impression can be found in France’s Bibliothèque Nationale (click here).
Signed with the swastika in black ink and with the monogram stamp in red (Lugt 4990).

A regal composition, with the “high-minded” rooster, turned away from us in three quarters. He has no time for this! Just look at his blond feathers glowing against his dark coat. And look at the size of that comb. I mean… he’s one in million.
