This is a proof impression by the artist, possibly one used for reproduction one of the illustrated books, or graphic novels for which Ward is famous.
Provenance: Bernard Brussel-Smith.  Thence by descent to his son Peter.
Bernard Brussel-Smith, another famous American wood engraver of the 20th century must have known Lynd Ward.  It is unclear whether this was gift from one colleague to another, or a purchase.
