La Sirène

Charles GUERIN
Date
1896
Description

Lithograph printed in bistre on japon volant (tissue thin Japan) wove paper.

This large composition is related to the smaller color composition Guérin created for "L'Estampe Moderne".

No known edition. Extremely scarce.

A moody symbolist print, in which a "dancing" pair of rocks is echoed in a couple of playful sirens and contrasted by an ominous pair of crows circling low. A young mermaid in the foreground looks at us and pulls us in.

Signed in pencil.
