First state of six, before aquatint was added, and shading throughout.  Unique impression in this state.
A smaller portrait of Verhaeren, in similar pose, but with glasses on, was used in a book by Verhaeren.  It is unclear whether this portrait was used in any way, or editioned in any state.
Signed “Rassenfosse” and annotated “Etude à la Pointe Sèche pour le portrait d’Emile Verhaeren – Epreuve d’Etat Unique” in pencil in the plate.
Small margins, likely original.  The size given is the sheet.
