Lover’s Embrace

Lithograph on Rives wove paper.

No stated edition, and scarce. It isn’t clear that any editions were ever printed for any of the artist’s few lithographs, which all seem to date from 1945 approximately.

Signed and dated in pencil.

A couple of small rust-colored stains on the verso, one faintly showing through in the right margin, away from the image; unobtrusive.

NOTE: Depiction of interracial love at a time when segregation was still the reality in most of the US is rather scarce. The tender embrace of this couple seems purposefully depicted in an undefined place and time, thus elevating the subject to one of human affection, and not, as it would have been perceived by many at the time, as a political act.
