Etching on thick wove paper.
Reference: Delteil 80 i/ii.
First state of two, before a grain of aquatint is added throughout the plate. This is indicated to be "fort rare", by Delteil, meaning printed only a handful of times.
Signed and dedicated in pencil (and dated "1895", the time of this dedication).
A magnificent impression, much softer than the grainy impression in the second state (see National Gallery of Art, DC). Provenance: Gunnar W. Lundberg, Paris, with two collector's stamps, small one on the recto, and larger one on the verso (Lugt 4679 and 4681). Faint scattered foxing on the verso. Faint staining in the margins on the recto. Neither condition affecting the quality of this beautiful print.
