A woman, the wife of the artist, is stepping off the jetty, jutting into the Garonne river. She holds a bouquet of flowers, maybe received from the man, said to be her husband, in the lower right corner of the image.  In the background many sailboats and large sail ships are docked in the harbor of Bordeaux.  This is an iconic image by Auguste Lepère, one of the most prolific etchers and pure line engravers of the late 19th century; and an artist whose compositional strength always amazes.
