William H. HAYS

William H. Hays is a Vermont-based printmaker known for linocuts that explore light, landscape, and the poetic geometry of the natural world. A self-taught printmaker with a background in watercolor and graphic design, he has developed a strong visual language rooted in simplified form and carefully calibrated color.
Working almost exclusively with hand-pulled reduction linocuts, Hays carves and prints multiple color layers from a single block — a demanding process in which each stage permanently alters the matrix. This disciplined method gives his prints precision and color vibrance: mountains, trees, rivers, and skies emerge from overlapping planes of pigment.
Exhibited widely and held in private collections throughout the United States and Europe, Hays’ prints have become especially appreciated by collectors drawn to craftsmanship and the expressive power of American landscape prints.
