View full detailsVictor-Joseph Roux-Champion (1871-1953) studied with Gustave Moreau at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts. In 1896 he met Charles Cottet in Brittany, and it is he who taught Roux-Champion zinc-etching, and also showed him some woodcut techniques. Thanks to an encounter 1899 Jean-François Raffaelli, Roux-Champion learned to add color to his prints. In 1901 he became one of the founders of the Société des Graveurs en Couleurs sur Vernis Mou. Roux-Champion continued to befriend other artists along the way, working for instance with Pierre-Auguste Renoir in Cagnes. Renoir even made a soft-ground etching portrait of the Roux-Champion.
