Thomas Todd BLAYLOCK

Thomas Todd Blaylock (1876 – 1929) was born in Langholm, Dumfries, and studied at the Royal College of Art in London. His depictions of flowers with flat, bright colors contrasted against dark backgrounds show a modernist's sensibility towards form, design, and color rather than an academic interest in capturing natural light. A lifelong resident of England, he exhibited his prints and paintings primarily in Liverpool, in the same era that the controversial painter Augustus John accepted a post teaching art at the University of Liverpool. His works have been offered at auction and are included in several museum collections.
