Thomas Nason

Thomas W. Nason (1889–1971), often called the “poet engraver of New England,” was a self‑taught master of wood engraving whose prints distilled rural Connecticut landscapes into quiet, atmospheric compositions. His meticulously rendered barns, windswept fields, and rolling hills evoke a poetic realism captured through his refined relief technique. Frequently commissioned to illustrate works by poets such as Robert Frost, Nason’s chiaroscuro engravings are prized for their technical finesse, emotional depth, and literary associations.
