Description

Le Peintre de Marine (original French title)

Etching, aquatint, likely with touches of drypoint, on laid paper.

The strange mark at the upper left is that of the plate maker, incorporated by Buhot into the image.
Signed twice with the large red owl stamp, once in the top left plate corner, once below the platemark; annotated "épreuve d’artiste" and signed in pencil.
Superb impression. The upper left corner torn and repaired, almost invisible when the print is viewed in the mat.
With the J and G (Jim Goodfriend) initials, forming a butterfly stamped on the verso.
