Description

La Vitrine de Sagot or Adresse Sagot (original French titles)

The Sagot Address or Sagot’s Lithography Gallery (alternate English titles)

Color lithograph on smooth wove paper.
Reference: Southard 27.
There was a signed edition with remarque.  This impression from the regular edition, without the remarque (and to the best of our knowledge, generally unsigned).  Both states, for which exact editions are not known, have become scarce.

Very faint and unobtrusive toning inside a prior mat widow.

This iconic image of the print trade was reproduced on the cover of the catalog raisonné of the prints, by Edna Carter Southard.  Edmond Sagot is credited for inventing the poster trade.  He was the first print dealer to catalog these commercial color lithographs adorning Parisian walls and Morris Columns, and to sell them.
