Stow Wengenroth
American artist Stow Wengenroth (1906-1978) was a master lithographer renowned for his deep affinity with place, creating luminous black-and-white renderings of New England. Praised by Andrew Wyeth as “America’s greatest living artist working in black and white,” Wengenroth crafted more than 350 lithographs evoking the quiet grandeur of New England as well as the bustling streets of Manhattan. A National Academy and American Academy member, Wengenroth’s work is housed in major institutions including the Library of Congress, Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Whitney, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
