En Bretagne, Eaux-Fortes et Lithographies par Maufra (original French title)
Color etching & aquatint on wove paper, 1894.
Refs: BN-IFF 11.2; Cate & Grivel 61.
Album cover and portfolio by Maxime Maufra. The front and back of the portfolio, but separated at the seam.
Published by L’Estampe Originale, 15 rue de Rome, Paris.
We do not know of this portfolio having ever actually been completed or published. It is possibly a project that remained unfinished.
One possible portfolio was recently sold from the Sam Josephowitz collection. It contained the following prints by Maufra. It is unclear that this would have been the complete set.
"Le Cimetière – Plougasnou"; and "Notre Dame de la Clarté" (both color lithographs)
"La Chapelle Saint-Fiacre – Le Faoüet"; and "Tonquédec" (both etchings)
Extremely scarce. We have only owned one other impression of Delatre's etching in the past 25 years and know of impressions only in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and in the Rijksmuseum.
Stamped with two monograms by Delâtre (Lugt 105 & Lugt 5183).
Provenance: Ronan Taburet, with his triskelion monogram stamp on the back of the portfolio.
