Robert DELAUNAY

Robert Delaunay (1885-1941) believed that modern art could express not just form, but the sensation of experience itself. Though best known for vibrant paintings and circular “Orphist” compositions, Delaunay also embraced printmaking. He collaborated with master printers and publishers, including Galerie Jeanne Bucher in Paris, which helped disseminate his graphic work during the interwar years. In a small but striking group of lithographs, his exploration of structure and rhythm is revealed as a purely spatial music of black and white. A pioneering figure in early 20th-century abstraction, Delaunay played a crucial role in pushing modernist art beyond Cubism.
