View full detailsRaoul du Gardier (1871-1952) lived a relatively long life despite poor health in his youth, and which stayed with him throughout his life. In need of sun, he spent many years of his life traveling warm places, mostly in North Africa and the Middle East. As a painter he mostly depicted the sea, its beaches, and the people enjoying both, whether on ships or on land. As a printmaker, his very fine color aquatints often depicted a woman with a bright, wide-brimmed hat. Who she may be remains a mystery. He left behind about two dozen prints, mostly in color, printed generally in editions of 50, which often use muted tones, and which have today, become scarce.
