Description

Le Baptême à Tréboul (original French title)

Color aquatint and etching on Arches wove paper.

This composition is based on an oil the artist painted in 1886, shortly after having made France his permanent residence.  The painting is now one of the crowd favorites at the Finnish National Gallery’s Ateneum in Helsinki.  The colors in his aquatint are quite a bit brighter than those he chose for his oil painting.
Signed in pencil.
Plate: 24 x 14 ¾ inches.
The size given below is of the image, which is a bit smaller than the plate mark.
