Nobuo SATOH

Nobuo Satoh (sometimes also spelled Nobuo Sato, 1926-2005) was born in Kanagawa, Japan.  After attending an engineering school, Satoh turned towards the arts, creating mezzotints and etchings.  He was awarded the “Promising New Artist” award by the Kokugakai Arts Association in 1964. Solo exhibitions of his work were held in London and Tokyo in the 1980s, and his work was included in group shows all over the world.  His prints then entered museum collections across the world. Known mostly for his mezzotints, both in color and monochromatic, his esthetic is refined and simplified. A surrealist tendency brings together unlikely object assortments or presents them from unusual vantage points. His prints are scarce, and the breath of his output is unclear. We were able to identify about 25 subjects.
