Description

Le Hibou (original French title)

Etching, aquatint, roulette, and drypoint on olive-greenish laid paper, 1893.
Reference: Bourcard & Goodfriend B/G 161 v/v.
An unusual impression, probably unique, printed with the pictorial margins "à l’essence (usually turpentine).
Signed with the large red owl stamp (Lugt 977).
The print was designed to be published as a frontispiece of an album of some of Buhot’s prints, a project that never came to fruition.
Provenance: Buhot family, with their blue monogram 1985 sale stamp on the verso (Lugt 4245).
At the top and bottom, faint turpentine tide marks, due to the "à l'essence" printing. Otherwise overall in excellent condition.
