L'Amant Fatal from "L'Amour Libre"

Reference: Millman 175. Edition of 50, but scarce, as are most of the artist's color lithographs. This is supposed to be part of an elusive suite titled "L'Amour Libre". We have yet to find a definitive reference to what this set or suite of prints may have been, who would have published it, and in what format. There is a partial Kleinmann blindstamp in the lower left sheet edge (Lugt 1573). It seems possible that Kleinmann published this print or series; but nothing definitive proves this. The size of this composition is too large to be used as a book illustration, even folded.

Numbered in pencil in the lower left sheet corner. Monogrammed in the image.

Some impressions were signed; ours is not. A few creases in the lower left sheet corner, well away from the image. The colors are perfect; this print has obviously not been exposed to light for any substantial length of time.
