Forme Crystal

Shirley WITEBSKY
Date
Description

Intaglio, probably aquatint, as well as some direct etching and engraving, printed in color through simultaneous color printing (a.k.a. color viscosity), circa 1960.

Artist's proof. There seems to have been a small edition of 10 with different colors. And we have found at least one more artist's proof, titled "Crystal". Scarce.

Shirley Witebsky was married to another Atelier 17 alumnus, Krishna Reddy, when she passed away. She signs this print with her maiden name but dedicates it using her married name. This is a beautiful and vibrant impression of one of the groundbreaking printmakers who helped develop new printmaking techniques with her husband while they lived in Paris and worked alongside Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17.

Signed, titled, and dedicated to the photographer John Pole and his wife Alice Woods in pencil.
