From a cycle of prints depicting the great German poet’s home in Weimar. Geibel grew up opposite his home in Weimar. To this day the poetry and other writings of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe are regarded as the highest expression of the German language and a point of cultural pride. With Friedrich Schiller, their outsized influence and national admiration cannot be overstated.
Signed, annotated "Weimar", numbered, and annotated "Orig – farbholzschnitt - Handdruckes" in pencil in the lower sheet edge.
Trimmed to the image, except at the bottom to accommodate the pencil notations, as usual.
Faint foxing, not noticeable on the recto. The colors fresh.
