Marguerite Montaut (1883-1936) worked in a celebrated Parisian printmaking studio alongside her husband, Ernest Montaut—one of the pioneering graphic artists of early motorized transport imagery. They specialized in large-scale, hand-colored pochoir prints—a labor-intensive process combining lithographic outlines with watercolor and gouache applied through stencils, making each plate a carefully executed unique object. Together, their shared oeuvre captured the excitement of early 20th-century mechanized speed and travel in vividly detailed Art Nouveau compositions, encompassing motorcar races, aviation milestones, zeppelin launches. After Ernest’s untimely death in 1909, she continued to work under both the names M. Montaut and Gamy (an anagram for her nickname "Magy"), preserving and expanding their shared visual legacy.
