Luce NAVAL

The little we know of Luce Naval, who was born in Paris in 1938, we know thanks to a short record compiled by Georgetown Graphics, which published one of her prints in 1975.  She attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière from 1955 to 1957.  The school in Paris’ Montparnasse district still exists today.  She then lived in England in 1957 and 1958, before moving to Madrid where she leaned sculpture at the Real Academia de Nobles Artes de San Fernando from 1959 to 1962, then furthered her sculpture skills from 1964 to 1967 at the Kunst Academiet in Copenhagen (a.k.a. Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi), and from 1967 to 1968 with Hubert Yancesse in Paris.  From sculpture, of which we have found no trace, she turned her attention to printmaking.  She spent 4 years at Atelier 17 learning various intaglio printmaking techniques from 1968 to 1972.  She seems to have been recognized enough to have a few one-woman shows in a few public venues, as well as a couple of galleries in Paris and Sidney, Australia.  She also seems to have exhibited in group shows frequently in the early to mid-1970s.  It is remarkable that such a well-trained and visible artist, has all but disappeared from public view.  We were not able find more than a couple of prints, and no sculptures whatsoever.  Any information that can be added to this biography would be greatly welcomed.
