Julie de Belleroche at the Burlington Hotel, Dover
Lithograph on old laid paper.
Reference: not in the artist's logbook.
Edition unknown, but certainly small, maybe unique.
Signed and annotated "Burlington Hotel Dover May 1910" in pencil.
This is a portrait of Miss Julie Emilie Visseaux, soon to be Madame Belleroche. Albert and Julie were traveling from the continent to London to be married, on June 10th. The must have arrived by ship in Dover in May 1910, a few weeks before the wedding. Albert drew her portrait in the Hotel Burlington (long gone). She is seated in front of the window, lighting a cigarette! And seemingly they were sharing a room! They were a very modern couple indeed.
