FRELAUT, Jean
Etching on wove paper. Reference: Delteil 241 ix/ix. Signed in pencil.
Born in Grenoble, French printmaker Jean Frélaut (1879-1954) created etchings and drypoints, featuring landscapes, coastal scenes, and rural interiors. Printed in small editions, his work combines crisp linework with tonal subtlety, evoking the gentle rhythm of provincial life through subjects such as harbor vessels, forest cabins, and village streets. Although not widely known, Frélaut’s prints are collected for their modest elegance and handcrafted quality. They represent an unassuming yet poignant thread in French graphic art, of quiet observations transformed into lyrical impressions.
