Jan Toorop

Dutch-Indonesian Jan Toorop (1858-1928) was an artist central to European Symbolism and Art Nouveau. Toorop’s prints and drawings are distinguished by mystical figures, flowing curves, and decorative precision, revealing the influence on the artist both Javanese motifs and his avant-garde experimentation. His dynamic, ornate style remains emblematic of Dutch modernism around 1900.
