Ref: Ginestet & Pouillon E660. Edition of 200. Published by "Bernheim Jeune", Paris. Signed and numbered "183/200" in pencil. Villon's "after" prints stand alone in the history printmaking. Many prints created to interpret other artists' compositions were intended for wide distribution commercial endeavors. Villon's prints after many of his contemporaries are amazing renditions that become works of art in their own right. Using his limitless intaglio vocabulary he was able to render effects that did the original art more than justice and often emulated it.
