J. Jay McVICKER

Born and raised in rural Oklahoma, young Jesse Jay McVicker (1911 - 2004) was a championship wrestler before starting his career as a professional artist.
Except for his time in the service during World War II, McVicker was a life-long resident of Oklahoma. McVicker received BA and MA degrees at A&M and, from 1941, taught drawing and painting in the school of architecture and art at the University of Oklahoma. Known for his experimental techniques as a printmaker, he was also a painter and sculptor. Throughout his lifetime, McVicker was an internationally recognized artist with shows at the Downtown Gallery in New York and the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Paris. In addition, his artworks are in significant museum collections throughout the United States.
