Henry Somm

Born as François-Clément Sommier, (1844–1907) Somm was a prolific French draftsman, engraver, and illustrator, associated with the Belle Époque and steeped in both Impressionist and Japoniste traditions. Renowned for his lively depictions of Parisienne life and humorous caricatures for journals like Le Chat noir and Le Rire, he also exhibited with the Impressionists at Durand-Ruel in 1879. Somm’s work bridges whimsy and urban sophistication, an expressive visual language rooted in the street rhythms of late 19th-century Paris.
