Belt Motif of Christ on The Cross
Christ en Croix (original French title)
Embossed composition printed in brown on leather.
While the artist often printed with carved gypsum blocks, this was likely printed from a woodcut, so as to be able to apply the desired pressure to obtain this embossed surface.
Reference: likely one of seven belt motifs mentioned under BN-IFF 16, possibly 17.
From a small edition (we’ve seen two).
Image: 1 ¼ x 7 inches.
Indicated below is the size of the leather strip on which the motif is printed.
