This is a study for a larger square oil on board titled "La Boucherie" from 1898, which is listed in Sylvain Laboureur’s catalogue raisonné (cat. numb. 4). The catalog mentions two studies, including this one. This was painted by the artist while he lived in the United States (perhaps during his time in Pittsburgh).
Bearing the estate’s "crab" initial stamp, verso (not in Lugt).
Panel size: 9 ⅜ x 5 ½ inches.
