Born in Toulouse in 1859, Gaston de Latenay was a French painter, printmaker, and illustrator known for creating poetic landscapes defined by changing light and weather. By combining Japanese compositional principles—such as asymmetrical framing and flattened planes—with the organic, flowing lines of Art Nouveau, he transformed simple views of nature into contemplative spaces charged with mood and quiet intensity. Working in etching and color lithography, he depicted gardens, harbors, rural landscapes, rain, mist, twilight, and moonlight with remarkable economy. He died in Paris in 1943.
