Franklin BOGGS

A painter, printmaker and professor, Franklin Boggs (1914-2009) lived during a fascinating time for American Art. A Midwestern born in Wisconsin, the artist grew up in the middle of the two World Wars. After he studied at the Fort Wayne Art School and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Boggs was awarded two European Traveling Fellowships and was in Europe at the outbreak of the World War II in 1939. He became a war correspondent artist and travelled to New Guinea in 1944 to capture the live and death of American soldiers. With patriotism coursing throughout American culture, Boggs continued his career as a muralist when he returned stateside. He was lauded for incorporating innovative techniques into his media and was recognized in Life Magazine in 1948 as one of the nineteen best young American painters. He became a professor of art at Beloit College in his hometown and remained there until his retirement in 1979.
