Erik van Ommen

A Dutch painter and printmaker who draws inspiration from his observation of the natural world, Erik van Ommen was born in 1956 and trained at the Minerva Academy of Fine Arts in Groningen.
Working in oil, watercolor, etching, linocut, woodcut, and sumi-e, van Ommen combines traditional techniques with a contemporary eye, with birds often as his eloquent central protagonists. From his studio, Atelier Brink 2, an old rectory in the historic village of Vries, he produces paintings and prints that unite craft, natural history, and lyrical expression, a sensibility also reflected in the more than thirty books he has published. He has exhibited widely in museums and galleries across Europe and in the United States.
