Erik DESMAZIERES

Born in Morocco and based in Paris, Erik Desmazières is widely regarded as one of the finest living masters of intaglio printmaking. His works often depict vast libraries, baroque interiors, labyrinthine cityscapes, and imagined ruins—spaces dense with memory, silence, and architectural poetry. Trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Desmazières draws on the legacy of Piranesi, Callot, and the Northern Renaissance, yet his prints feel wholly personal: reverent, surreal, and impeccably composed. The artist prints his own plates with extraordinary control of tone and texture, often in limited editions that reward close looking. His work is held by major institutions, including the British Museum, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Art.
