Ellison HOOVER

The career of American artist Ellison Hoover (1903–1989) primarily focused on printmaking. Blending the charm of WPA-era figuration and sleek modernism, Hoover's lithographs and etchings depict subjects as far apart as towering skyscrapers and leafless tree branches, but all drawn with his elegant and reductive tonal language. Hoover was an active part of the 20th-century American art world, contributing through his work and as a teacher and mentor to younger artists. He was a member of various prestigious printmaking societies, including the Society of American Etchers and the American Print Society, and he exhibited his works in several museums and galleries across the United States.
