Edouard ELZINGER

Though widely celebrated for his colorful Swiss travel posters, Edouard Elzinger (1880-1966) also worked as an illustrator and keen observer of modern life. Armstrong Fine Art was pleased to offer this intimate café sketch, featuring a rare glimpse of the artist's hand in a quieter, more informal, sensitive mode, likely drawn from life. Far from the polished idealism of his lithographs, the drawing captures the casual rhythms of urban leisure with fluid linework and soft washes of color. The mood is casual, momentary, and charmingly unguarded.
