SPITZACK, Charles
Color woodcut on japan paper. From the edition of 20.Titled, signed, numbered and dated.
Charles Spitzack (b. 1987) is a Seattle-based printmaker specializing in woodcut and mokuhanga techniques. Spitzack’s practice is rooted in the tactile process of carving and printing, where he embraces direct, hands-on engagement with natural materials. He views this deliberate, physical process as both a preservation and a protest against the accelerated pace of modern, technology-driven life. His prints often center on the dilemmas of contemporary society, focusing on issues such as equality, labor rights, environmental concerns, and the dignity of the working class. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, in collections including the Microsoft Art Collection and the Southern Graphics Printmaking Archive. In 2024, Spitzack was recognized with the Kobaien Prize at the International Mokuhanga Conference in Echizen, Japan.
