Charles Marie DULAC

French Symbolist painter and lithographer Charles-Marie Dulac (1866-1898), who realized his great gift to depict the divine in nature, began his career painting sets for theatre and opera productions. Poisoned and ill from exposure to industrial lead white paint, Dulac embraced the teachings of Saint Francis of Assisi and spent his remaining years creating landscapes with symbolic, dreamlike compositions influenced by his profound spirituality. With their subtle beauty, the lithographs he produced three years before his untimely death are admired for their eloquent spiritual and mystical undertones.
