Charles Jean HALLO

Charles‑Jean Hallo (1882–1969) was a French lithographer and poster designer whose career spanned rural landscapes, animal studies, and celebrated tourism posters for railway lines across France and Belgium. He studied under Cottet and Blanche, exhibited in Paris from 1907, and later founded the Musée de la Vénerie in Senlis.
Actrice Saluant – Chanteuse du Café‑Concert is a rare print among Hallo’s oeuvre: a theatrical scene rendered with compositional restraint and expressive detail. It diverges from his usual poster imagery, offering instead a glimpse into café-concert culture and human performance. The lithograph showcases his draftsmanship and narrative sensibility—quiet yet sophisticated.
