Camille BOUTET

French printmaker Camille Boutet was active in Paris during World War I. While biographical details about this artist remain difficult to verify, his surviving prints endure as symbols of civilian morale during the hardship of wartime.

Armstrong Fine Art was proud to offer one of his most widely recognized works, Nous saurons nous en priver (“We can deprive ourselves”). Produced for the Comité National de Prévoyance et d’Économies, this poster was part of a series, along with about a dozen other designs created by French schoolchildren, to inspire citizens to conserve resources, practice wartime frugality, and celebrate collective effort. Boutet’s work reflects both social messaging and engaging, simple visuals.
