C. David THOMAS
C. David Thomas is an American printmaker, painter, educator, and cultural organizer. After serving with the United States Army in Vietnam from 1968 to 1971, he studied at the Portland School of Art, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Tufts University, and the Rhode Island School of Design, where he received his MFA in 1976. Thomas taught studio art at Emmanuel College in Boston from 1976 to 2001 and maintained a long association with the Boston Printmakers, serving as its president from 2007 to 2009. His prints often combine recognizable imagery with unexpected juxtapositions, visual wit, and an interest in the symbolic associations of objects and cultures.
In 1987, Thomas founded the Indochina Arts Partnership, an organization devoted to fostering artistic exchange and reconciliation between the United States, Vietnam, and Southeast Asia. His work as an artist, educator, and curator earned him a Fulbright Senior Scholar Grant and the Vietnam Art Medal.
