Description

Color woodcut (woodblock print) on thin wove Japan paper, 1966.
Edition of 20. Scarce.
An amazing expressionist Sōsaku-hanga (meaning: creative print) woodblock print, seemingly influence by German Expressionists and the strong pull of abstraction found in North America, where the artist started to live as of the early 1960s.  She uses delicate stipple and scraping to add movement and texture and overlay of translucent primary colors to create the sense of depth one experiences in such pyrotechnical displays.  This is a stunning work of art by a cutting-edge woman artist, who is today highly regarded and whose prints have entered numerous prestigious institutions.
Signed, titled, dated and annotated in pencil.
