The Print Enthusiasts
Les Amateurs D’Estampes (original French title)
Woodcut on tan wove paper.
Reference: Vallotton & Georg 107c.
From a large edition used as a calling card by the famous Parisian print seller Edmond Sagot, with his purple address stamp above the composition. This composition was so popular that Sagot had it reworked to move the boundary line and the location of his name in the upper right corner. He also had it updated with his new address, now in the composition. This second version is smaller, and unlike the first iteration is photomechanically reproduced, not a woodcut.
We offer both versions in one lot here.
|Image (woodcut): 7 ⅜ x 10 inches. Image (repro): 5 x 6 ⅝ inches.
The edges of the sheet slightly toned in both, as is usual for impressions on inexpensive commercial papers.
