Italian-American August Mosca (1905-2003) was an artist known for capturing the vibrant energy of metropolitan life through his lithographs, silverpoint drawings, and paintings. Born in Naples in 1905, he moved to the United States in 1911. He showed artistic promise early on, earning a scholarship to Yale University's School of Fine Arts. Mosca also studied at the Pratt Institute, the Grand Central School, and the Art Students League.
After moving to Greenwich Village in 1928, Mosca met fellow Italian-American artist Joseph Stella in 1937. Stella became Mosca's mentor, and the two shared a studio until Stella's death in 1946. His work was widely exhibited and acquired, appearing at prestigious venues like the Brooklyn Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, and the New York Public Library.
